Massage Therapy

Massage therapy is the perfect compliment to our yoga offering to bring wellbeing to the whole body. The greenmonkey massage therapists are body healers specializing in a variety of modalities to truly create overall balance and harmony. They have a deep understanding of the human body – anatomy, movement, the mind – specifically the yoga body because they too are yoga students and teachers. Below are the various massage therapies offered:

Aromatherapy Enhancement
Aromatherapy uses essential oils derived from plants to promote relaxation, invigoration or alleviate pain. Your massage therapist will blend up to five oils customized for your needs. For example, ylang ylang, jasmine and geranium offer anxiety and stress reduction, while camomile, cypress and eucalyptus help relieve muscle soreness. Add Aromatherapy to any of the massage treatments below for an additional $10.

Swedish
Swedish massage involves the use of kneading, stroking, friction, tapping, and vibration. This modality can provide relief from stiffness, numbness, pain, constipation, and other health problems. The main purpose of Swedish massage is to increase the oxygen flow in the blood and release toxins from the muscles. Other possible benefits include stimulation of circulation, an increase in muscle tone and a balance of the musculoskeletal systems. Swedish massage shortens recovery time from muscular strain by flushing the tissues of lactic acid, uric acid, and other metabolic wastes.

The Trager® Approach
The Trager Appoach uses gentle rocking and lengthening movements of the client’s body to invoke a state of increased relaxation and flexibility. The movements assist in releasing chronic states of tension and become more flexible with less pain. Off the table, clients are taught Mentasics (movement education) so the client can learn to release tension at any moment. The Trager approach is a total approach to wellness and self care. Clients are fully clothed during the session wearing yoga-like clothing. 90-minute sessions for $135.

Deep Tissue/Neuromuscular
Deep tissue massage is aimed at the deeper tissue structures of the muscle and fascia. Deep tissue massage uses many of the same movements and techniques as Swedish but the pressure is generally more intense. It is also a more focused type of massage as the therapist works to release chronic muscle tension or knots also known as “adhesions.”

Thai Massage
Thai massage originated over 2,500 years ago in India and is based on Yoga and Ayurveda. The recipient wears loose, comfortable clothes, lies on a mat or table and is put into yoga-like positions. There is constant body contact between the practitioner and client, but rather than rubbing on muscles, the body is compressed, pulled, stretched and rocked in order to clear energy blockages and relieve tension. The practitioner uses thumbs, palms, forearms, elbows, knees and feet to create a dance of movement on the body of the recipient. In this process, joints are opened, muscles and tendons are stretched, internal organs are toned, and energy is balanced. The overall effect is one of deep relaxation, rejuvenation, and physical and mental well being. Oil is not used in traditional Thai massage.
